Media Blasting

In general, media blasting is an alternative to sandblasting (read more about sand blasting here). The process is essentially the same, but it uses materials other than sand for blasting. Many media blasting materials are environmentally friendly and can be recycled several times. Some popular media blasting materials include: soda, glass, walnut, green diamond, and corn cob.

Media blasting might be used as an alternative to sandblasting for a number of different reasons. For example, sandblasting can generate a lot of heat which has the potential to warp thinner samples of metal. Different media materials can also be used to achieve different finishes, from very smooth to highly textured. Bead blasting is a way to clean surfaces without any damage. Essentially, the size of the glass beads determine the surface texture after blasting, the bigger the beads, the deeper the texture.
